Our mission

Edge is the umbrella organization for undergraduate entrepreneurship activity at UChicago.

Our mission is to provide UChicago students with resources and a community to help them build skills, companies, and relationships.

What does Edge do?

We have four tracks that run programming in different areas of entrepreneurship.

Learn about our tracks below, and get involved with one (or more)!

Edge X: start something

Website: edgex.strikingly.com

Edge X is the community of student founders who are leading the charge. We’re a best-in-class mentorship program for your startup idea, a powerful network, and a tight-knit circle of friends—all focused on helping you tackle your biggest obstacles.

Whatever your major, your experience, your skills—apply at edgex.strikingly.com and join the next generation of UChicago startups.

Venture Capital: consult & invest

Website: midwayvc.com

Midway Ventures bridges the gap between student entrepreneurs and early stage fundraising through VC education. We provide students with the skills to evaluate early stage investment opportunities, including due diligence and deal sourcing.

As a member of Midway, you will not only work with VCs from both Chicago and Silicon Valley to identify interesting investment opportunities – you will also be a strategist, working alongside student entrepreneurs to help them tackle high-priority issues and grow their companies.

Academy: learn skills

Academy offers classes in useful technical skills for startups, tech companies, or everyday life.

Each class will be a 1.5-hour session each Tuesday evening for 4 weeks (3rd - 6th inclusive).

Graphics: Learn the tools to create your own logo and edit any photograph (including Photoshop).
Web: Learn the methodology be- hind code and the principles of web design.
Development: Learn back-end web development in a hands-on, project-oriented tutorial class.

Open Events: network and hear from experts

Edge Events hosts events that are open to the public. It focuses on creating opportunities for students to learn more about entrepreneurship paths and build skills in order to become amazing entrepreneurs.

Examples of last year's events include:

  1. Large-name speakers (e.g. Sam Yagan, Peter Thiel)
  2. Site visits to Chicago-area companies (e.g. GroupOn)
  3. Phoenix Pitch (our pitch competition).
